Music Notes

. . . for Sunday, February 5th
During the offering the choir will sing British composer, Edgar Bainton’s most well-known piece, the anthem, And I Saw a new Heaven.
Bainton was born in Hackney, London in 1880 and made his first public appearance as a solo pianist at the age of nine. He studied theory with Walford Davies and composition with C.V. Stanford. He was visiting in Germany when WWI broke out, so spent the war in an internment camp outside Berlin. At war’s end, Bainton returned England then moved with his family to Australia in 1934 where he died in 1956 shortly after his wife’s death.
